Cate's Approach
I am so excited to be connecting with you.
I work with relationships and individuals, with a focus on sexuality, boundaries, communication, trauma, pleasure, and all things desire (aka, confusion, excitement, complexity, joy, envy, fear, shame, societal expectations and so on…)
Commonly, clients see me to talk about sex, and yes, we can dive into kink inventories, pleasure mapping, sexual archetypes, and the wanting and not wanting of sex. And yet, the heart of our work together lies in unpacking the stories, feelings, and sensations you hold that are tethered to sex and your body. Spoiler alert; sex is frequently the physical manifestation of something much deeper: your beliefs, your history, your nervous system, your wounds, and your desires. Which makes it both beautiful and deeply complex, and exactly what we get to explore together.
I use modalities and theories such as somatic exploration, internal family systems, polyvagal theory, neuroscience, audio bilateral stimulation, attachment theory, mindfulness and good old fashion chit-chatting. I meet each client through a lens of de-pathologizing; not viewing someone with something "wrong" with them, but as a whole person worthy of deep understanding. Our work together is an invitation to meet yourself with informed compassion and genuine curiosity.
I offer a trauma informed, somatic based, cultural and social justice approach to therapy. I support clients wanting to explore sexuality, pleasure reclamation and trauma healing. What that really means to me is that I support you in connecting deeper to who you are, what you want, what feels painful, confusing, joyful and exciting.
Before becoming a therapist…
I was a birth and postpartum doula for six years, which taught me a tremendous amount about what a human goes through before, during and after birth. I saw every doubt, sob, sparkle, scream and exciting moment that the process can create. It became glaringly obvious to me that therapy (specifically sex & intimacy therapy) needs to be part of the pregnancy and postpartum experience. That transformation deserves to be honored with support.
It is such an honor to hold this delicate, ferocious, passionate space for you.
If some of this made you excited or let you exhale a bit, send me a message and I will greet you with open arms and curiosity.
"I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening, a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation."Peter Levine, Waking the Tiger
